(Contributed Photo) To make this weekend’s Tournament of Champions golf tournament even more exciting, IT&E announced yesterday a donation of cash and prizes totaling more than $5,000 to the event’s organizing committee.

IT&E’s donation includes $2,500 in cash, as well as a brand new Samsung S4 cellular phone with one year of unlimited Android service. Additionally, the company is donating a BlackBerry 9930 Bold Smartphone. Both phones will be used as prizes during the tournament.

Volunteers of the golf tournament will also be able to communicate more efficiently with each other during the event as IT&E is also donating 12 loaner phones for their use.

“The Tournament of Champions has raised critical funds that have benefited our community for the past 18 years,” said IT&E marketing manager Hans Mickelson. “We are extremely proud to be part of this year’s tournament again by donating great prizes for the tournament participants.”

“IT&E has been a longtime supporter of the Tournament of Champions, and we are grateful that the company has joined our slate of sponsors again this year,” said TOC director Ben Babauta. “The prizes that IT&E is donating will be a great draw for our golfers.”

According to Babauta, about 200 golfers are expected for the 18th Tournament of Champions, which will be played at the LaoLao Bay Golf and Resort’s east and west courses.

Babauta stressed that the two-day event is bigger and better than ever with exciting hole-in-one prizes and the chance to win thousands of dollars in possible prizes.

First place winners in the Men’s Championship, A, B, C, Senior and Super Senior Flights will each receive $500 cash, $400 for second, $300 for third, a digital camera to fourth, and $100 DFS gift certificate for fifth place. The Ladies Low Gross champion will receive $500, $400 for second, and $300 for third place.  The first, second, and third place winners of the Ladies Low Net will receive a trophy.

There are hundreds of thousands of dollars of possible prizes at stake in the two-day tournament, including hole-in-one prizes on both the east and west courses that include a Hyundai Accent from Triple J Motors, Ford Escape from Joeten Motors, one year of free golf from Saipan Laolao, two business class tickets to the U.S. from Delta, a business class ticket to Europe and other non-U.S. destinations from Asiana Airlines, and many more.

The tournament will also be featuring $1,000 cash prizes for closest to pin competitions.

Since its inception, TOC has given over $500,000 to the Saipan Beautification Fund, which has gone directly to the improvements of the tree-lined traffic medians that stretch from Garapan to the former Palm Resort, as well as the revitalization of the Garapan special district. In addition, TOC also contributed funds for the Paseo de Marianas, the lighting of the Saipan Beach Pathway, the beautification of the Port to Park pathway, and the revitalization of Mt. Tapochau.

“We are proud of our continued commitment to enhance the beauty of Saipan for our tourists and residents,” Babauta said. “It is the generous support of our golfers, sponsors and committee members that make this event possible.”

Registration for the 2-day tournament is $185, which includes a lunch banquet on the second day. Registration forms can be downloaded from www.tocsaipan.com. Register before 12pm on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, by submitting a registration form and registration fee at the first floor of DFS Galleria (next to Foreign Currency counter) or at Saipan Laolao.
