Attorney General Edward Manibusan literally ruled the Super Seniors Flight of the 2015 Tournament of Champions last Sunday, less than 12 hours before Typhoon Souledor wrought havoc on the islands.

The former Superior Court chief judge made up for a pedestrian 12-over par 84 on Day 1 of the tourney Saturday by taming the greens and fairways of Laolao Bay Golf & Resort with a 3-over par 77 last Sunday despite the winds howling like there was no tomorrow.

He wound up with a two-day total of 161 to edge first day co-leader Mori Toshiyuki’s 164, built around an 81 on Saturday and an 83 on Sunday.

Choul Soo Kang came away with a similar 161, as the Day 1 co-leader finished with an 81 and 83 like Toshiyuki, but settled for second runner-up honors after losing in a scorecard tiebreak.

Eli Buenaventura (166, 87-79) and Alex Tudela (168, 81-87) round up the Top 5 of the Super Seniors Flight.

Over in the Seniors Flight, Guam’s Mark Rush made short work of the Kagman golf course with a 151, which tied the 20th TOC low score of Championship Flight winner 15-year-old Dong Young Lee.

Rush proved that while he’s no longer a spring chicken, a senior golfer could still be impressive on the course after submitting a 79 on Day 1 and an even-par 72 on Day 2.

Returning Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho finished second with his 155 after shooting a promising 75 on Saturday. He, however, went back to clubhouse on Sunday with tail between his legs with an 8-over 80.

Rep. Tony Benavente, a CNMI Hall of Famer, came in third with his 157 (75-82), while Guam’s Vic Borja and Laolao Bay course manager Tony Satur, another Hall of Famer, completed the Top 5 with their 162 (77-85) and 164 (75-89), respectively.

The results of the Ladies Flight and Ladies Low Net will be published in the Saipan Tribune next week.
